Grow Snow in Your Hands!
Insta-Snow isn’t just fun to make in a cup… you can make this realistic and fluffy snow right in your hands. Just measure one blue scoop (included with all Insta-Snow kits) into your tightly-cupped hands and add water. Try to keep all of the powder and water in your hands, together. Before you can say, “Let it go!” your hands will be creating faux snow that’s cool to the touch!
Create Colorful Rainbow Snow!
Insta-Snow is a superabsorbent polymer. What’s that mean? Water gets slurped up in droves, and any color that the water has will be absorbed, too! Whether you have some food coloring or a bag of our Fizzers Coloring Tablets, dye your water and watch the Insta-Snow become whatever color you created! (We recommend using Fizzers, since food coloring has a tendency to stain.)

Create Mixing Snow!
Have you created a couple of colorful snow batches? Place them in layers inside of a clear container like a drinking glass or a test tube. In an hour, or so, the colors will start to blend! If you layered red and blue snow, you’ll be creating purple snow. It’s a great method to create the secondary colors from nothing but primary-colored snow.
Insta-Snowball
Trying to create a snowy sphere using Insta-Snow can be a bit tricky, unless you know the secrets! After you’ve made a batch of Insta-Snow, push it into a pile. Carefully pour a small amount of water into the middle of the Insta-Snow and cover the hole you create with more snow from around your pile. Gently slide your hand underneath the pile and scoop out your Insta-Snowball. CAREFUL! This Insta-Snowball is very fragile. If you want a little more permanence out of your snowball, stick that bad boy in the freezer!

You learned how to make individual snowballs, now you can take it to the next level! Create 3 separate snowballs and stack them on top of each other (after they’ve been frozen) and decorate your stack with items to turn plain snowballs into a magical, hippity-hoppity Frosty.

FAQ
What are the best mixing proportions?
- Mix 1 teaspoon of Insta-Snow powder with 2 ounces of room temperature water produces the best quality snow.
- We recommended making your snow in smaller quantities to get the best batches. Insta-Snow® powder expands 100 times its original volume. Just a small amount of powder is needed to make an impressive quantity of snow.
How long does the hydrated snow last?
Your Insta-Snow® will start to dehydrate after a few days due to evaporation. To keep it looking fresh and fluffy Just spray the top of the snow with water and fluff it with your fingers. You can also let the snow completely dry out to use it again. Just spread it in a thin layer and leave it uncovered for 7-10 days (depending on the humidity in your area). The dry form of Insta-Snow® powder will last forever!
Why does the snow feel cold to touch?
Since Insta-Snow® is almost entirely made up of water, the water is bound to evaporate… this process of evaporation produces a constant cooling effect. That’s why it’s so much fun to touch!
Does Insta-Snow® Melt?
Insta-Snow® will not melt since it is not really frozen water. However, the water can be released from the superabsorbent polymer by adding salt to break apart the polymer chain. The addition of salt destroys the water absorbing properties of Insta-Snow® forever.
Does Insta-Snow® have to be on a special surface?
No, Insta-Snow® can be used on almost any surface except untreated wood. You might want to perform a surface test with a small batch of snow before covering the entire area, just to be sure. Surfaces that are ideal include tile, plastic and glass. Insta-Snow® will not stain fabric, but normal care should be taken when applying this water-based material.
Can Insta-Snow® be colored?
Yes! Just add a few drops of food coloring to the water before mixing it with the Insta-Snow® powder to get colorful, confetti-like snow!
Can Insta-Snow® be thrown away in the trash?
Insta-Snow® is easy to clean up and can be disposed of in the trash. Just brush the surface clean or use a vacuum to pick up the snow, while it is hydrated or dry. Do not dispose of wet or dry Insta-Snow® down the drain, as it will soak up lots of water and potentially clog your pipes. Insta-Snow® powder is a non-hazardous, non-toxic, environmentally safe polymer.
Is Insta-Snow® safe to use outside?
Yes! Insta-Snow looks so real that it is used by special effects artists in movies for outdoor scenes without damaging the plants and grass. Sprinkle the hydrated snow on evergreen trees to produce a realistic snow effect. In fact, the water absorbing properties of the snow are actually beneficial to the plants. Insta-Snow® can be very slippery when wet. Use special care to keep the snow off of any walking surface.
Is there more than one Insta-Snow ® on the market?
There is only one Insta-Snow® as indicated by that “circle R” thing. The name Insta-Snow® is a federally registered trademark of Steve Spangler Inc. (Federal Trademark Registration #2928946). But that hasn’t stopped the knock-off companies from branding their own versions of a snow polymer. Our favorite knock-offs are the companies who believe that Insta-Snow is the same superabsorbent polymer found in a baby’s diaper. If this were true, every time the baby went potty, the diaper would erupt to an enormous size and explode! Might be a great way to potty train the kid, but it’s not the same as Insta-Snow® polymer. Insta-Snow® is the only polymer that instantly ERUPTS when it comes in contact with water. The knock-off “snow” companies tell their customers to “…add water and stir the mixture for 20-30 seconds to make snow.” All you have after 30 seconds is a tired hand and a cup of baby diaper goo.
